Friday Fun (Nov. 20)

posted by admin

Today is a crazy day for us at CrossSeekers as the leadership team hangs out in Sykes to garner input from the student body. They’ll be there for several hours starting at 11.

What are we looking for exactly? Well, questions. Lots and lots of questions that students and others at WCU might have about Christianity, Jesus, salvation or just about anything.

They’ll also be there to take any prayer requests that students might have, so stop by the table, grab a card and jot down some questions for us. We’ll look to answer as many of them as possible on Wednesday night, Dec. 2, in Goshen 108A at 7:30 p.m. Be sure to stop in for both the table and the answers.

Later on tonight, Megan and Emily will be hosting a hangout complete with free Root Beer floats. They live in the apartments on South Campus (if you want to come, e-mail brodie@crossseekerswcu.com for the address). That starts at 8:30 p.m. and will likely go until about 11. Afterward, everyone is going to load up and drive to Downingtown for Midnight Bowling at The Palace, which will run from midnight until 3 a.m. Cost for the bowling will be about $10-12, so come prepared for that (but let us know if you need help).

We look forward to seeing you out! Should be a fun day!

A question for you.

posted by admin

One time I was reading a book about the gospel and what its focus must be in order for it to have any lasting effect in peoples’ lives. While reading, I came across  a simple question that can have an immediate impact on our own Christian walks and challenge us to remember the source of the gospel and what believing it actually means for those who believe its truth.

So here’s the question as given by a pastor in Minnesota:

“If you could have heaven, with no sickness, and with all the friends you ever had on earth, and all the food you ever liked, and all the leisure activities you ever enjoyed, and all the natural beauties you ever saw, all the physical pleasures you ever tasted, and no human conflict or any natural disasters, could you be satisfied with heaven, if Christ were not there?” (Quoted from God is the Gospel by John Piper, pg. 15)

That’s the question that we must wrestle with in this day and age. Because we have so much available for us to enjoy, would we be satisfied with all the stuff we experience now—minus the sickness, war, conflict, stress, etc—if Jesus Christ wasn’t present with us?

Ask yourself this question today. Think it over again and again until you are satisfied that you’ve come to an answer. If your answer is yes, you’ll need to rethink your participation in the Christian movement. If your answer is no (that you wouldn’t be satisfied without Christ present), then that should make a serious impact in your daily life.
